    Summer In Andalusia

I downloaded it! Thanks to Shaterri and Centaur for pointing me to the torrent.

Good movie, not great, an interesting if brief storyline marred by the fact that the main character was pretty much an unlikeable jerk, in the guise of being "haunted by his past" or something. But aside from that it was a good explanation of how a stage of a cycling race works, explaining sprints, pacelines, the peloton, domestiques and team leaders, breakaways etc. and a lot of the strategy and tactics that goes into winning a stage race. I would have liked to have seen this movie a year or two ago when I was learning the basics of how to watch bike racing. And beautiful animation, the director worked for Ghibli and it showed, a slight Miyazaki look to some of the character designs, and the radical stylisation in animation style during the sprint finish was a cool idea.

Worth downloading, glad I didn't spend thirty bucks on a DVD or anything though. :)

Bemanistyle drives me crazy for being full of people who can set BPMs easily, and synch files beautifully, but make steps that utterly blow.

Fortunately, that gives me plenty to do in my free time, as I usually make files tons of people will want to play, but I'll tear my hair out trying to get the damn song specs right.

Song of the moment is the next project.

    tl;dr for the previous post:

I fursuited for the first time on Sunday and it was a thrilling experience I will never forget.

Some observations mentally noted by a first time suiter:

    * oh god, what the hell am I thinking?

    * they told me visibility is limited but this is ridiculous! I am blind!

    * oh wow...I'm...not me!

    * those people are laughing. What did I do wrong?

    * oh crap. I don't know how to dance. *panic*

    * ok, I'm moving but I honestly would not call this dancing. Nobody's complaining though

    * keep moving. just keep moving.

    * hell, this is kinda fun.

    * that guy dancing with me was fine until he said "hope I'm not being too forward." Hmm, what's over here?

    * haha! I am RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU and you don't know who I am! This is awesome.

    * I am getting so much attention from suiters and non suiters alike. I feel so warm!

    * okay I feel REALLY warm. I need a break. 90 minutes in suit is probably a lot for an out of shape bozo like me.

    * aaaahhhhhhhhh ^_^

    * WHERE THE FUCK IS ALL THE WATER IN THE HEADLESS LOUNGE!? Aaarrgh!

    * oh gross! You mean I have to squeeze myself through all that cold gooey sweat in that head? Ugh...

    * ::urk:: need...shower...

    * Everyone thinks I am adorable! Eee! ^_^

    * look cute! Disney poses! Just keep moving!

    * THIS FAN FEELS SO GOOD!

    * (EDIT - Forgot this one before) Oh c'mon...What part of this rediculously complicated pantomime/sign language don't you understand??

    Furry Firsts - Fursuiting
Yes! With extra huge thanks to Duncan the Dog I had a very special experience on Sunday night at the con: I suited up for the first time ever!

Let me say that I don't know how others view fursuiting. To some of you it may just be an accepted aspect of the con that you pay no attention. To others it may be your only purpose as a furry. Me, I never cared all that much until a year or so ago. A few masquerade skits stuck out in my eyes as something of an inspiration. Finding time at a con to try on a suit is actually not easy, but thankfully Duncan was there this time, and I can't remember feeling so excited.

The fursuit is a brand new partial named Nova. After putting everything on I looked in the mirror and my heart raced. I felt like I had been whisked away to a fantasy world where I wasn't me.

Duncan led the way to the Dead Dog dance. I was scared! I had no idea how others would react. I was wearing a long sleeve shirt of his that was a bit too small on me. That and the fact that the jaw of the head kept moving slightly to the side kept me very nervous about what onlookers would think.

But so far things seemed ok. People said hi. Other suiters were friendly.

Then we went into the dance. I was blind as a bat. But I started dancing, which was also a first, and I am not sure I can even call it dancing! But I kept getting attention from others (even without bumping into half of them first) and it felt really great! Of significant note were my friends Aegis (who gave me a glow stick to play with after dancing with his fox plush) and Creo, who interacted with me in a very party-like manner...hehe! And NEITHER of them knew it was me underneath. How weird an experience it was. (In fact Creo and Fair, who was with him, will probably find out by reading this entry.)

I kept moving for 90 minutes and finally decided to stop. Duncan introduced me to the headless lounge (I have been in them before but this time I felt like I was being granted special priveleges...heh) and its lack of water. (I am not blaming anyone for that; hotels are always behind on water supply at cons.)

After a small break and shower I suited up again but this time went up to the "Cub Hub" and entertained the guests there. I really liked the feedback I was getting. I attempted to double the cuteness factor by wearing footy PJs (tail poking through the drop seat and all) and I think it worked pretty well.

Having successfully transformed from a fat lazy human being into a bouncy and energetic little pup, I wonder if I overdid things. The exhaustion afterward was spectacular, but it all seemed really worth it. I was afraid NOT to keep moving my arms and feet both at the dance and the room party, like a deathmatch game where staying still even for a second will get you killed.

The whole thing was very thrilling and VERY encouraging. I can't even wrap my mind around it. It was that awesome. If I am lucky I'll be suiting up again at the next meet. I'll have my own long sleeves this time.

I am also in queue for a full body fursuit from Arend Studios which I am now committed to 100%. With luck it will be ready for AC09. The character is Vin, and you can see the reference art on kooky's FA page (or kookyfox on LJ)!

The fursuit incidentally is also now enrolled in the "Drink Foxes Brigade" (LJ community "drinkfoxes") and it will be interesting to see what is in store for us there.

Thanks again Duncan! *hugs lots and lots

First day of new jobishness went well. Factory work can be demanding in alot of ways though this job was'nt what I expected, let me explain: I work for Nelson Packaging in Lima Ohio, they basicly do work for Proctor and Gamble. There's a multitude of lines in this place with people filling various bottles with product (mainly Tide or other laundry detergents) or reprossessing the products. Should the bottles be defective or someother thing. I'm still learning what goes on there so I can't say to much just yet. But mainly I spent my entier day at a cardboard bailer tossing boxes in to me smashed....for 8 straight hours. The hardest part was the standing around since time passes more slowly when you have nothing to do.... Oh well I go back in tomorrow to work anywhere between 6 to 10 hours so it could be an interesting day.

    odd turn of events
I just learned today, that one of my Boss's from here in Toledo, was in the Pittsburgh area over the weekend. According to her, she was 10minutes away. for me that could have been very bad if she woulda spotted me specially when i was wearing a purple collar, bright purple tail and my BF badges around when i went for walks. lol...damn I had a close call.

Of course after I learned all of this, I felt compelled to tell her what i was in Pittsburgh for because shes like the coolest boss ever. I showed her my Fursonal ID, and thanks to my mighty phone of all directions, i showed her footage from the CBS newscast, an took time to answer any questions she had about the event. all and all, it was a good day. maybe I'll get her to come next year.

    AC and such
At this point in time, i would like to point out, that i wish i had Tigra's ability to write awesome entries and make it fun and exciting. I suck howlever.

Ac was awesome and huge. How ever i dont think i had as much fun this year than last. Spent alot of time building last minute harnesses, cuffs and collars.

I did get to meet new and old friends which was teh awesome! Howie and his mate Neil, Seven, Lace and Rave Husky are among them. though... i do wish i would have gotten out more in suit and hung out with friends more :(

the Tradition did continue at Tonic with fursuit beer drinking. I got to the Rave in time to actually dance for a bite. while Kale Dj'ed. And i dont think i sucked all that bad either, but iam sure i did make an ass out of my self as usuall.

Did i mention i suck at writting these? Oh yeah one last thing. Me and a few other furs did have fun busting a bit of balls by giving a certain suiter sprinkler heads thru out the con. :P He took it in good sprit at least *giggles* Wait untill megaplex! Doooooooom!

    Little things
    1. Still waiting to get a phone charger. It's now dead and I have a feeling I have a few missed calls. Craps.
    2. Still need to pick up my baby turtle face.
    3. My computer is sitting in an Apple Store. I'm getting some casing replaced and they're trying to figure out my antenna problem. Yay.
    4. Alex (Silent) was kind enough to lend me his laptop while I don't have mine. It's really weird using a windows pc. For example, I just tried to use alt click. And that didn't work so I tried ctrl click. Then I remembered there's a right click button. Crap.
    5. If anyone has any pics of me in suit or at the con, please let me know. I are picture whore.
    6. My house is still a mess. But now that it seems like there is a meet happening Saturday, it needs to be cleaned for real. Which is good.
    7. I fell asleep last night at 7. Woke up at 1. Fell asleep again at 4. Woke up at 1 today. What the hell.
    8. Jeff is falling asleep. I'd like to get moving on my errands.

    America the proud?
I recently went to the movies thanks to my roomate *roo is REALLY broke right now* and I have to say it was one of the cutest movies ever.

The animation was as one would expect... amazing. This was the "300" of childrens movies. The people at Pixar *and I know I have a few watching ;)* need to be hugged. I was impressed with the detail, the movement and even the phsyics, it was so hard to actually focus on the story which was in and of itself cute and funny.

The story is simple and I will do my best to refrain from spoiling the movie.

WALL-E is a little cleanup robot, the last of his kind left on earth to clean up after the humans. The planet is thrashed, no room for garbage it just got piled up everywhere. Humanity is long since gone, having left to live in the stars while the cleaning units pick up the mess. WALL-E is a simple little robot who finds joy in the simplest of things, collecting interesting little things along the way as he does his job. During an expedition to earth, a scout robot finds our friend who falls in love and the usual disney drama ensues.

In the story, humanity has become fat, I mean really fat. Everything is done for us, so we float around in hoverchairs with cleanup robots handling our every need. Technology has made us into fat useless blobs, it looks rather like someone roamed around Disneyland and took note of the fat wheelchair whales that roll around the park.

APPARENTLY, this didnt sit well with the whiney land whales got upset that the movie basically made light of the fact that humanity is getting fatter, andliving to extream excess. The public laughed and we pointed at everyone who was crying with a chuckle and a simple "step away from the sandwhich and maybe stuff wont offend you so much" and we went on our merry way...

    Que other groups...
    http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/06/30/another-brick-in-the-wall-e/

Now apparently the movie is propaganda for the children to scare them into conservation... wha?! What is so wrong with conserving at ANY rate? I mean its kinda BS but at the same time can someone tell me what is fundamentally wrong with teaching the world to conserve reduce reuse recycle?!? I cant comprehend this concept. My confidence in the human race just hit a new all time low.

Just to clear up confusion, if given the chance, I'd be driving a huge inefficient 1950's caddy with a carton of marlboros in the front seat and the music turned up loud enough to register on the richter scale. 50000 watts of power!! but yea, I digress

WALL-E was awesome and on the same note, so was Wanted... go see them both, they rocked hard.

Wow, I've got to post more often I think. I guess the main reason I don't pass by LJ as much as I used to is because of the drama, it seemd everywhere I turned someone was complaining about something and my line of thought was:

"I have my own issues that no one wants to hear about the last thing I need is to be drowned in someone elses!"

I'm one of thoes people who takes another person's stress, if a friend or loved one is upset I'M upset. Plus...I just got tired of seeing people complain about the most annoying things... And I know I have'nt exactly been a model citizen myself though I can honestly say I'm not the same person I was 4-5 years ago or 10 years ago for that matter, I've done alot, seen alot and been through a heluva lot in that time. I guess what brought this on was my need to stay in touch with old friends, to relive a bit of the past and try and recapture something that feels like I've been missing. Thanks to the urging of my loving...and brutal...wife...never let her spare with me again. *rubs his sore bruised arms* I've reenlisted, it's offical. As soon as I turn in the last bit of paperwork and undergo the lovely physical (I passed the pre-physical so this one should be a breeze) I'll be once again in the U.S. Navy. No idea where I'll be sent so don't ask, I'll pas the info along as it comes.

On another note: I'll be in Southern California for a week starting July 15th so if anyone out there wants to say hi let me know, there are a few of you here I'd like to see as well!

I also start my new job later today so wish me luck.

    Furry firsts - Panel
This is one of those aforementioned two awesome experiences this Anthrocon that I don't plan on forgetting.

This was my first time as a Panelist at a convention.

I was looking for a way to actually contribute to the convention without looking for ways at the last minute to volunteer. And whether or not I was offered any sort of staff role, I like to actually attend Anthrocon. It's a busy enough experience without actually working! So I decided to put together this hang-out panel, like a meet-and-greet, basically about nothing. To give it some sort of substance I decided to offer Pictionary and Charades. To make it relevant to the convention I decided to use jungle-themed words for the games. Someone suggested having the panel take place during 2's rant to give folks something to do if they were getting tired of 2. And so it was.

In actuality I just wanted to goof around, so I didn't take the gaming part seriously. But then during the con I started to feel differently about it. "I have a responsibility here," I kept thinking, "and I don't want to waste anybody's time!" So I quickly got very self-conscious about what I was doing, and tried to put together better ideas for charades and pictionary at the VERY last minute. This did not work and I sheepishly headed to my panel feeling very unprepared and riddled with stage fright. It also didn't help that I was somewhat emotionally drained after an unpleasant experience that had occurred shortly before the panel.

So then lucky things happened. The first lucky thing is that my friends stepped in to help out. Lupine and Flightline stalled for time while I made my way downstairs. Lupine saved half the panel by venturing out to find an easel for Pictionary. (I understand that the convention only had one easel, possibly due to a storage mishap.) And Wag stepped in halfway through and was very active, keeping participants company and leading Pictionary completely. The pictionary ideas on those index cards were poorly prepared and horrifyingly unbalanced, but Wag managed to turn lemons into lemonade with a bit of humor. I wouldn't have been able to do that in the self-conscious state I was in.

We played Werewolf. We laughed, we had fun. I realized we might not have enough Pictionary/Charades index cards to last the remainder of the panel. Something one of the attendees mentioned reminded me of a game I played once long ago at a party. It was called Pavlov and it was the second Lucky Thing that happened: An actor has to perform a task without knowing what it is - his only clue is the "hot or cold" feedback from the audience in the form of applause. This went over REALLY well and was very fun to put on and involve people. Prizes were given out. And there was a little girl named Brittany who participated and had a lot of fun too, it was really cute. Then Wag ran pictionary, and at the very end of the panel we fooled around with a tiny little spur of the moment "Kazoo musical chairs."

In the end, the panel did not bomb. I know I screwed up a lot and could have prepared things a lot better. If I ever run a panel again I promise it will involve content in which I am actually experienced. :-) (Whatever that may be...) But this time around, thanks most definitely to Wag's, Lupine's, and Flightline's help, fun was had. *jawdrop* You guys rock so much!

    A message to Beteljuice
    Agh.

Already there are so many awesome details from AC that I have forgotten. Nekonaru just reminded me of this one.

We were waiting in line in the lobby for the elevators. I was just about next, but Beteljuice came along with a couple buddies and stood in front of the elevators.

Perhaps it was better that I spoke up instead of Security. Maybe I took a bullet for the Dorsai at the elevator. But there was an exchange of words between me and BJ, and he considered himself "caught" and decided to move to the back of the 20-minute line.

For the record, Beteljuice is a performer, and I thought maybe, just maybe this was all just part of his act. But there was a lingering thought in the back of my head that I had given a poor impression and might have come off as rude.

As we stepped onto the elevator Neko said, "Isn't he the Guest of Honor for FurFright this year? And aren't you the GOH liaison?"

    Oh goddamnit ...

So Beteljuice, if you can read this: Thank you for being cool about that little line incident. We really are looking forward to your company (and Likeshine's!) at FurFright again! And best of all: you won't have to go to the back of the line, because FurFright doesn't have lines at the elevators. :-P *shines your shoes hastily*

    Anthrocon 2008 report
I haven't posted one of these for many cons, but this was a pretty damn significant weekend for me!

Let me quickly get the regrets out of the way )

The rest of the weekend was simply magical.

I attended nearly 20 panels and events, and that does not include room parties or poker. I got just the right amount of drunk on the nights that I drank - I was tipsy and enjoying myself and I don't think I upset anybody, although there was an italian margarita at dinner on Sunday that was stronger than I expected (maybe it was the empty stomach) and I let myself get a little carried away with a certain debate.

    Okay, events. )

Room parties: I made $20 in a poker cash game. The farewell party for Jenni and Rev was far from solemn (and far from quiet, whew). The Cub Hub (Cub Pub, now?) was executed flawlessly (Thanks Fox Cub, Felix and gang!). Titanium Tea was pleasant and very relaxing - Thanks Watcher! The softpaw party had free pizza. And in Flightline's room I drank all of his buttershots - oh dear god.

From what I understand, Wag's electrical problems have finally been repaired and the voltage really equalled the product of amperage and resistance. I have yet to see proof of this, so I hope someone was able to get some by way of a voltmeter.

    Hall C )

I did not experience PCD during (or after) the return trip, though decompressing is a little rough. It all must mean I got to do everything I wanted to do and had no major regrets. Woo!

I am saving the best for last here: Two particular experiences that rocked my furry world. And they will be going into a separate post.

I hope everybody had as much fun as I did this past week(end)! I don't think it's possible to have enjoyed it any more than this! *hugs to all*
